Your Computer takes time to boot and show the desktop items

You have probably seen your computer slowing down and taking time to show the start menu and desktop items. It bothers you, doesn't it?

One of the reasons might be that you have many start-up programs. This means that your computer works hard to open a lot of programs even when you have not commanded it because it has been set to do so by either the program itself or you.

The solution to this problem is to get rid of some start-up programs or uninstalling them if necessary.

How can you do that?

Windows XP
  1. Go to start menu.
  2. Click Run
  3. Type: msconfig and press enter or click OK.
  4. A window will show up with many tabs. WARNING: Do not temper with anything apart from what you are advised to. This is a very sensitive window and if not handled well your system might not boot when you restart.
  5. Click the tab labeled Startup
  6. You should now see a list of startup items and their location indicated.
  7. Now, do not disable any startup item whose location starts with the letters HKCU... or HKLM.... This is because all startup items listed above are vital and are needed in the boot and startup process.
  8. You can disable some of the startup items whose location starts with SOFTWARE.
  9. NOTE: Viruses like amvo are also found on the startup items with the same location as SOFTWARE. So if you don't mind you can as well disable them.
  10. After you are done disabling, you can click OK.
  11. You will be asked to restart the system. Click Restart.
  12. When the system restarts it will open a window notifying you that you tempered with the system configuration utility. Tick where it says something like "do not open this window at next system start" and click OK.
Windows Vista

With Windows Vista, there’s quite an easy procedure. You can improve your computer's performance by preventing unnecessary programs from running automatically when Windows starts. Here's how:

Click the Tools button, and then click Software Explorer.

  1. Open Windows Defender

a) Click the Start Button

b) Click All Programs

c) Click Windows Defender

  1. In the Category box, click Startup Programs.
  2. Select the program that you want to prevent from running, and then click Disable.
  3. Click Yes to confirm that you want to stop that program from running.
  4. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for every program you want stop from running.
I hope this information will work out for you because it has worked many time for me especially when I experience technical difficulties with stubborn and notorious viruses and bugs like amvo.
